Objectives

In the last several years I have been taking a fresh look at a design for a university in the context today’s environment, knowledge and technology and their probable evolution. This effort lead to a preliminary design for what I have been calling “Notional University”. The resulting design differs from most of today’s universities in structure, curriculum, funding economics, and teaching methods.

To support of this design effort I developed a number models to better understand and deal with some aspects of the problem and its context. Some of these models might also help us solve other problems in facing our changing social and technical environment.

This blog has two objectives. The first objective is to share the Notional University design and the thinking that supported the design. The second objective is to solicits review, critique and refinement of the design and the supporting models, and potentially, help to implement the design.

This effort has progressed to the point where it needs critique and improvement from others with different backgrounds, skills, and ways of thinking. Working as a systems engineer I learned that the more ways one considered a design the more likely it will to work well and avoid significant problems.

This blog will include material on: modeling, education, design methods, brain functions, strategic planning, marketing, changing sub-cultures, sensor information processing and ethics.

Material will be released as the drafts become less rough with prerequisite material given priority.

I hope you find it interesting.
